Brazilian Agency Estimates Record Production in 2025

Brazilian farmers are expected to harvest 322.3 million tons of grains in the 2024/25 season. This represents an 8.2% increase compared to the previous harvest, or 24.5 million additional tons to be harvested. The new estimate from the National Supply Company (Conab) reinforces the forecast of a record production in the historical series if the result is confirmed. This performance is attributed to favorable weather conditions during the development of first-crop fields. Additionally, the total planted area is estimated at 81.4 million hectares, a 1.8% growth compared to the 2023/24 cycle. The data was released by the Company this Tuesday (14), during the announcement of the 4th Survey of the 2024/25 Grain Crop.

As the main crop grown in the country, soybeans are projected to reach a production of 166.33 million tons, 18.61 million tons more than the previous harvest. After a year of reduced yields, the current cycle is expected to recover the average productivity of the fields. For this season, an average yield of 3,509 kilograms per hectare is expected, compared to 3,201 kg/ha recorded in 2023/24. The planting of soybeans was concentrated mainly from late October onward. Consequently, the harvest is also expected to occur predominantly from late January. Weather conditions during the analyzed period have so far favored the crop, but Conab continues to monitor the potential effects of climate variability until the completion of the grain harvest.

With the second-largest production volume, corn is expected to record a total harvest of 119.6 million tons in 2024/25, a 3.3% increase over the previous season. For the first crop of the cereal, a 6.4% reduction in the planted area is anticipated. On the other hand, average productivity is expected to rise by 4.8%, reaching 6,062 kilograms per hectare. Frequent rains interspersed with sunny periods have favored the development of the crop in the main producing regions. As a result, a harvest of 22.53 million tons is expected. Meanwhile, the planting of the second and third corn crops is set to begin this month and in April, respectively.
